Dreaming of Home

I recently took a trip to Northern Idaho with my sister Jeanene. We spent a week at Lake Pend d’ Orielle. The reference for this painting is an actual sunset that happened toward the end of our trip. We stood outside trying to catch it with our iphone cameras and softly exclaiming. “Wow!” “Holy Cow!”

Sometimes we are given a window into what exists somewhere ‘else’. Somewhere that is lovely on a whole different level.

I have often said that my paintings are about our longing for “home”. That part of us that remembers that we were created for something more. My painting Autumn light is certainly a reflection of that. The house with the glowing windows. The astounding sunset reflected in the lake. The cozy chimney with the smoke rising into the evening sky.

Does it make you homesick? It does me. It does me.
